Jenny Ray
Jenny Ray, founder of Stone Medicine, began her life walking with stones as a child, in the 1950’s. She developed an education program for Stone Medicine, before meeting Mary Nelson in 2004. At that time Mary asked her to teach these traditional/ceremonial methods to her LaStone Therapy instructors and students around the world. That open door, led Jenny for the next ten years, to incorporating modern science, with the ancient traditions and teaching under the certification program of LaStone Therapy. In 2009 Jenny was honoured and inducted to the World Massage Hall of Fame.
She is mixed blood, as so many are these days. From her father Chas Thompson’s linage, she is Santee’ Dakota Sioux and from her mother, Jean Carper, she is Irish with a bit of Cherokee. Her father was thrilled that one of his children wanted to follow the traditions of his people.
Jenny continues to walk with the Stone Nation (Inyan Oyate) and carries the Medicine Ways of the Stones all around the world. Read Jenny’s own story here.
Over 10,000 years ago, the ancestors of Native American tribes began offering stone massage to the body for wellness. Stone Medicine offers these ancient traditions, using heated and chilled stones, gem and crystal stones and various animal ‘medicines’ (energies) to the massage profession. In ancient times hot stones were gathered from sunny river banks and ocean shores. The sun heated basalt was used to soften muscle tissue in combination with the water cooled stones, dipped from the river, lake or ocean to reduce swelling and inflammation. Stone Medicine is the only stone massage therapy based on these ancient, healing practices.
Stone Medicine treatments are not just intended to affect the physical body, but the emotional and spiritual body as well. By clearing the body of negative energies and reconnecting it to the perfect balance of Mother Earth, the body’s ability to heal itself is re-established.
Stone Medicine, offers continuing education workshops emphasizing: proven science, contraindications, hygiene, sanitation, safety procedures, proper temperature control, and unique application techniques, along with amazing ceremonial applications, to ensure that the highest standards are being met by professional stone massage therapy practitioners worldwide.
